Perhaps you can help me. I recieved a box of silverware that my aunt was going to put in a garage sale, that I thought would some day be useful. However, I have yet to find something safe to clean it. The only markings on the box, which is a very solid heavy made wooden box with a red velvet lining, is a stamp on the leather handle that says "Solid Nickel Bronze" This is in a circle on the top and at the bottom it says "Thailand" and in the center the best I can make out, it has the letters of U V. The silver/nickel ware ( don't know what to call it) is very beautiful. The handles on all pieces are completely square and on the back is an inscription of what appears to be a rose with maybe a vine going in both directions from the rose. Then in very small print is the word "Thailand" imprinted on each piece. Actually only a few pieces need to be cleaned, other than polishing. It appears that perhaps someone tried to clean them with something that left a black looking tarnish. I don't know how old they are, but I have had them for 20 years, and I don't know how long my aunt had them, (obviously awhile since she was willing to part with them through a garage sale). I have never seen any other flatware like them. But hopefully you can let me know how I could clean them. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much. Debra Batary Norman, OK.

There's a small screw/lever device on the side of the circular metal piece, and the inside of the circular piece is threaded, like for a big screw. Can anyone give me info about this company or whether this "find" has any value? Thanks. Terrie. TerriePhil@aol.com

Treat & Davis Melodeon - I have what I believe is a Treat & Davis melodeon. The cabinet has folding lyre legs and a wooden stretcher for iron pedals and a small music rack, with round velvet covered candle stands. There is no name plate. The keyboard has 61 notes, ivory with boxwood fronts and ebony sharps. It is 38 X 19 1/2, 30" from top of case to floor. It has a small single pump bellows. I have seen a picture and read a description of a 1864 Treat & Daivs Melodeon and it looks very similiar. The difference is the round candle stands instead of square ones and the size is slightly different. Also there is no name plate that I can find. Does anyone know where I can find out more information. Is it a Treat and Davis? How much might it worth? It is missing one of the candle stands. Two of the keys stick. The ivory is cracked a little on two keys. The finish is in very good conditions. All the working parts are there. Any assistance anyone can give would be appreciated. Hi, I am attempting to finding information on how to "Care for" a Theo A Koch Barber chair. My girlfriend recieved one from, a friend. She is a hair stylist and was looking for a chair so she could begin to work from home. Her fathers friend had an old chair, a Theo A Koch Barber chair. When moved into her house the movers tipped it and spilled a dark oil like substance(most likely oil?) from the chair. She wants to replace this "oil" and make sure she does not do anything in the future to cause any damage. Any advise on what the "dark oil looking substance" was and how to "refill" the chair would be great. Any known websites on barber chairs would be great as well. All I can find are websites selling these ideas, no info. Thanks Pam

I have an oak rocking chair with a sticker on the bottom that indicates it was manufactured by Heywood Brothers Wakefield Manufacturing in Baltimore Md. The chair's entire bottom and back is made of one piece of wood bent while the arms are separately mounted on spindles. It makes (to my way of thinking) a highly satisfying loud noise when I rock in it. I rocked my children in it and family lore has it that it belonged to my great-grandmother, who rocked my grandfather, (b. 1910) in it. I have looked on the internet but have been unable to find information about this type of rocking chair-I've never seen one anywhere even remotely like it. I love it so much that if the house were to catch fire, after my family and pets, I'd save it first. Anyone with any information on what this might be and whether it is of great monetary value would be greatly appreciated. Margie mklynch@nc.rr.com
I am trying to find out the value of a sugar bowl. It is 6 1/2" from handle to handle, about 3" tall, and 3 1/8" from rim to rim. The pattern is light and dark pink roses on a white background. The cover has a knob on top with some gold. The bottom states it is hand painted and has a picture of what I think is a rose. It also has a mark which is very hard to make out but it looks like V'9005. I hope you can give me some information on this Thank you. Please respond to redhawk@rochester.rr.com

I recently purchased a boxed perfume from the 1920's. It is in a leather case with a bird brass catch. The inside top lining says: Ahmed Soliman, Master Perfumer, Khan Khalili, Cairo. The bottle case has a marbled look and the scent is called Scent of Araby. When you open the marble bottle case, there is a gorgeous white "swirly" opaque glass with faint pastel colors and it is etched all over. There is a cloth cap tied on. There is a frosty to clear glass stopper with gold colored ball. This item is pristine. It looks brand new. I have only found one listing in an old Kovel price guide but there was no picture of that item. I'd love some help on how to date and value this piece. I also have a small (1 inch) Mexican pendant/charm. It is in the form of a holster w/gun. It is marked Mexico Sterling 10K FCT. It has silver and gold coloring and tiny red stones that have no type scratches. The gun has a T-bar on the back and it rides in a groove in and out of the holster and is completely removable. Of all the items that I purchased this is my favorite. I can't find any info at all. Please help. Thanks so much, Linda lbotsch21@bellsouth.net.

A few years ago I inherited a 3 piece living room suite made by Karpen Brothers of Chicago. It consists of a love seat, an arm chair and an armless chair. Originally, it was upholstered in black leather with a diamond tuft w/buttons back and smooth seat, the wood portions are tiger oak. It was stuffed with horse hair and the bottom was covered by burlap. I have recently had it restored to black leather upholstery. The love seat has a metal tag that says Karpen Brother, Chicago. In my family, I can date the furniture back to at least 1927. My Mom told me that her parents bought the furniture used. I have never seen anything like it, anywhere. Can anyone help me date this furniture? I can email you photos if you like. The furniture is not for sale, I would just like to get some history and possibly determine an approximate date of manufacture and value.
This is in reply to May 02 posting, RE: Mark of Intersecting Swords in Shape of an X. Your set should either be Meissen or possibly The Gardner Factory, Russia. PLEASE SEE following information: I found this online while trying to find what and by whom, my Vase/Urn/Tureen pedestal style(?), with marks in foreign language, that in a way, resembles Cyrillic (?)! So I found some articles on the history of Russian Porcelain/Pottery and Art. I believe this may be of some assistance. For the first twenty years the Imperial Porcelain Factory had little competition except for imported wares whose prices were inflated by import taxes. However, in 1766 the market was transformed when Francis Gardner (w. 1746-1786), an English entrepreneur, established a porcelain factory in the village of Verbilki in the Moscow province. Under his direction, and later his son's and grandchildren's, the factory earned a reputation for producing high quality, finely made goods in the latest fashions. In the 1770s discerning Russian consumers preferred porcelain from Saxony, and Gardner did all he could to satisfy their demands, occasionally even marking his wares with crossed swords that could be mistaken for Meissen's. If G. Bemard Hughes is correct in arguing that Gardner came from a family of Staffordshire potters, Gardner would certainly have been familiar with earthenware copies of Meissen designs from Staffordshire potteries and porcelain copies from Chelsea, Bow, and Derby. Best of Luck! angelndisguise66@pacbell.net

I also have a glass jar with handled lid in a mother of pearl finish with gold flowers and the word "Barley" in gold. Can't seem to find anything on that either.

I'm not shure if this is the place but it's worth a shot lol. I have a large vase with a very light grey background and cobolt blue flowers and birds on it. When i bought the vase i was told that it was 16th century. It has the rings on the inside from someones hand while they were throwing the vase. it is in remarkable condition if it truly is that old but you can tell that it has been around for a very long time. There is a small chip on the opening of the vase. it stands about 18-20 inches tall with no handles, and there are not any markings on the bottom that i can tell. how would i be able to tell if i really have something of value? thank you for your time Isaac.Harper@uscellular.com

Does anyone know where I can find out information about small "parlor" stoves. I have a 1886 stove approx 40 inches in height and made to burn small amounts of wood or coal...it is metal stamped on the base of the stove "Banner of the World" Southard,Robertson & Co. This stove being more decorative has a opening at the base for the burnables to go in ...then atop the actual stove there is an ornate door opening for air ajustment i think...the very top of the stove is flat leading me to believe it could be a 1 small burner stove...the top does have a metal round plate that does come out of the top part being what would be the burner itself....can anyone lead me to any information about this stove or its value would be GREATLY APPRECIATED Chris Hogan E.Htfd, CT cibohs@aol.com

The scenery is red and white flowers, a tree with leaves and what I would consider grass at the bottom(done in black lines). The color of the center of the plate is cream and it has a blue border around the rim. The bottom of the china says "made in occupied japan", in rust color. There is the letters KA enclosed in a diamond shape. What company made these and are they original or fake? The letters and writing seem to be under the glaze. Lustrous, brownish gray, mint condition Rosenthal ceramic of a seal (i.e., the sea mammal). I would very much appreciate any information on this piece. DETAILS - Pose: The seal is seated on its hind quarters with its front flippers spread left and right, with its rear flippers curled around to the right and lying together on top of the right front flipper, and with its head thrown back in a vertical position (nose pointing straight up). Underside (base) I.D. Info: The green-colored maker info includes "Rosenthal" in typical form (i.e., with the logo - crossed lines and imbedded crown-like device - inserted between the "n" and "t" in Rosenthal); below that, in smaller capital letters and enclosed in carats, appears "< GERMANY >"; and below that in lower-case letters is the word "handgemalt". Set apart from this but also in green is a "W" or an "M" (depending, of course, on which way you're looking). Last, impressed elsewhere on the base is (1) the name of the artist - Theodore Karner - given as "Th. Karner" (umlaut over the "a" in Karner) and (2) the series number of the piece: "1289". The approximate dimensions of the piece are 10-3/4" across, 7" wide, and 8" tall. Please reply by email to rleefla@yahoo.com.

I have recently acquired some Thomas, Germany, tableware - cups, saucers, plates, bowls and a covered sugar bowl. I am not having any luck identifying the pattern. The style is identical to that used in their "medallion" range, but mine does not have a coloured rim. Each item has a circular motif of pink and red buds and leaves - very stylised, sort of 1960's. The motif is in the centre of the plates and bowls, and on the side of the cups and sugar bowl, which has a red top to the handle of the lid. If anyone recognises this description and can supply the name of the pattern, please let me know at CarolandK9@aol.com. Thanks

Hello. I have a "Thomasville chair company" dining room set: china cabinet, buffet, server, and table with 2 leafs and 6 chairs (I think it's from the 50's). All the pieces are in great shape except for the chairs...they really took a beating!! My question...I would like to replace the chairs. The set is a dark maroon color (I don't know the actual name of the color). The table has the "claw" bottoms - the chairs do not. Any idea where I could get replacements?? I could probably get them worked on but a couple of the chairs would definitely need much of the wood replaced and I don't know if it's worth the cost. I would really appreciate any comment on this. Please email me at vms1203@comcast.net. Thanks!! :)

My father Vincent Caporale is very interested in Antiques, my father has many Antiques such as paintings, jewlery and many more that you would be interested in. But when he goes to sell them not many people are interested in them so I thought that I would look for him. He has many things that are worth a lot and I would really like it if someone knew where the best place for him to go and see what he can make. We are from the Bronx and there are not that many places around here to sell things. But if it is possible if someone could either call us or email me about where a good place is or if you are interested on anything that my father has I could send you a description or what he has and then you can decide if you like it or not. But please if you can try to help us out that would be great. Thank you my email address is berniemack_1984@hotmail.com please email me as soon as you can thank you.

I am looking for help in identifying my Heinrich Selb China pattern. The pieces are a cream background, three floral sprays, all the same size with a large pink and yellow flower surrounded by two small blue & and several more pink buds. It's similar to Strausbourg pattern #76099 but not scalloped and not roses...It's also similar to Queens Rose pattern of Tirschenreuth Bavarian China. Some pieces are stamped US Zone, some Jenny Lind (which I believe depicts a particular style rather than pattern,) the numbers 86, 56 and 1 are also stamped on the back of various pieces. One large piece has the number 16260 hand-painted in gold on the back. Replacements.com shows no matching number or pattern. I have 60 pieces in mint condition and would like to add more. It's absolutely beautiful! If you can help me, please email Elizabeth_Sanderson@msn.com. Many thanks.

I have recently inherited my Grandmother's wedding mahogany bedroom suite, which includes a vanity, wall hanging mirror, chair, 6 drawer dresser, nightstand and poster bed. The Vanity, dresser, and nightstand all contain a brass triangle label inside the top drawer which states Thomasville Chair Company: Character Furniture since 1904. I realize that this means that the furniture was purchased before 1960..I also know this because my grandparents were married in the early 40s. I was wondering if anyone would know how to determine the Thomasville collection number. I would like to have some idea of value as well as historical data for provenance. Interestingly, I cannot find this same triangle label on the bed, chair or mirror. The bed, chair and mirror do match the other pieces in both color and style. The lack of label makes me wonder though if they were purchased at the same time as the labeled pieces or from Thomasville. I would also like some advice on this part of my mystery as well. Thank you for your interest, Shay. SSteadman@gmail.com
My friend has an antique straight back chair with a leather seat. The back is carved. It has 2 holes or brackets under the seat that would hold a board on either side. She saw an old picture of her Dad sitting in the chair and his brothers and sisters sitting on either side on these boards. Can anyone tell me what type of chair it is and maybe who made it. What was it really for? Any info would be helpful. Renee arsliberty@bellsouth.net
