I was recently thrift store shopping and came across a chair that appeared to be one of a set. It did not have it's original seat, but underneath it has a faded sticker on it that says: The City Chair Company, #4548, Mahagony. What is it's value, if any? Is it part of a set? I have the chair on hold, is there anyway to complete the set? The chair had a unique design on the back rest of circles that appear to interlock...(if my memory is holding up!) Thanks, Sarah J. sarah.peterson@gotoltc.edu One more thing, I searched online and visited the City Chair Company website and they had no info up about their history nor the value of past items.
ihave a set of porcelin owls with a sort of crossed sword emblem and a 4number identity number on the bottom. Anybody know what they are?
Seeking a reference book or good internet link on how to find the identity of a mark on a set of porcelain dinnerware...a mark not in any of the main reference books you find out there. Does anybody know a truly thorough source for identifying marks? In case there are any experts: cobalt blue and white dinnerware with gold accents, marked: A circle with two clover-like leaves at each side (one clump at the 2 - 3 o'clock position and one clump at 10 o'clock position - as if the mark were a clock). The clovers' stems reach to the center and join to a stem that runs from the bottom (6 o'clock position) to the center the circle. The following text encircles the mark - as best I can read it: Top line, curved around circle's top: MODERN 72 Second line, curved below the top line: JES.GE SCHUTZ (then a letter/symbol that I can only describe as an exclamation mark or a "T") Then the circle, then a final line of text, in a horizontal, straight line: ISCHACH.-SLOW. (Slovakia?) Supposedly, these were originally from Transylvania (now Romania?)...very, very old. My mother owns them and she has a huge full set with all the extras. Any help would be great! Thanks so much, jenascott@hotmail.com

What I have here is the most unusual piece of Victorian Mourning Art I have ever seen and it's quite morbid: It's a cutout of a sleeping baby (but NOT a photograph), nearly life-sized. The baby is dressed in actual baby clothes(complete with lace and ribbons)in a decoupage manner and sleeping on a stuffed satin pillow. Curled blonde human hair frames the face. It's,framed, faded and behind glass. Will try to get provenance. Any idea of it's worth?

I also cannot find a match with any nippon items on the web looking like the one I have. It is beautiful. Irredescent, very bold gold scrolls, flowers, no color, all in gold on the inside of bowl (no handles no feet). The outside is white with gold flowers around the top scalloped edges (4). The backstamp shows Hand painted, nippon with a space after the i showing it as, ni ppon and a leaf with a broken leaf to the left. the i in nippon appears to be slanted i.e., n/ ppon. It looks like a bluish green color for the backstamp. Any help with this is appeciated. Thanks

I have two prints in old wooden, two color frames. They are sealed in the back with a sticker which says "Beauty for the Home - Sungott Art Studios - New York". Each frame contains a black and white print of Verona, Italy. The first one has "Veduta del Ponte delle Navi di Verona, tolta fuori del Burchiello alla Vittoria" underneath the print, which shows a city, with a river and bridge, and a covered boat with a man carrying a cross on the shore. Underneath the left corner it reads "Per il Moroni in Verona" and on the right side under the print (possibly woodblock) it reads "G. Cristini incise". The second print is of soldiers marching in a square, and a horse-drawn carriage in the foreground. It is titled "Veduta de la Piazza Della Bra' In Verona". Under the left corner of the print is written "Cristoforo Dest Acqua Vicentino del." and under the right corner is written "G. Cristini incise". The stones are arranged symmetrically, center is turquoise, also onyx, coral, mother of pearl, Clear pasted I believe-- stones of leaded glass, the foil that backs is 4 colors pink, green, yellow, white/clear. Shape of a football, kind of oval, stoned back set, symbol on inner portion of ring/not band appears like a floral ribbon, a flower with 6 petals, outer portion of flower looks like extended flower, it looks like a crown from some angles, it is elevated design, side has what looks like a flower design/sort of a torch with a flower /triangle shaped piece, front where stones small on outside gold is braded looking and swirls of circles which elevate as you reach center, this center stone is a turquoise, all stones shaped to fit except turquoise, which is set in but not fully symmetrical with circular setting area, mother of pearl flat. It may be a lotus flower/rose on sides. If anyone has hints or clues to origin please e-mail: setivasicwood@netscape.net, Can send pics. Linda

have you heard of wood&silver beer stein will cover decorated by 4 sets of dragons, stamped with st.louis silver co. quadruple 100. please advise any information. thanks. nakelly2d@yahoo.com
I purchased a walnut, drop leaf table with porcelain casters. It came from the shop owner's family and she (in her early 80 and has very good reputation) says it is "100 years old with original finish". There is a fifth center leg and originally would "open to 9 ft". (Sadly there are now no leaves available). You can see where the rims of the bottoms of hot bowls/plates, have been set on the table and the finish has bubbled slightly. It is made like the golden oak drop leaf kitchen tables, with iron leaf supports but this one is walnut. It has definitely been used and does have wear and tear, but I do not believe it is the original finish because the worn edges are the same color and finish as all the other surfaces. I don't want to ruin something which is valuable but I would like to have it back to the original color and to eliminate the many rings on the table top. I would very much appreciate any remarks you all have as to whether I should refinish, restore, rehabilitate, or not touch this "original finish"! Thank You adahmarie@lisco.com

If there is an antique dealer available, I would like to find out the value of this item. Thanks. LH ratched_2000@hotmail.com
I found an old table that is assembled with pegs, some are round like a dowel and others are more flatter. The legs are about 3x3 posts, made up from 3 1x3's glued together. The bottom of the legs does have casters on them. The wheels are wood on cast iron. There was a drawer but looks to be a replacement, construction of the drawer does not match the table. Needless to say the table is in horrible shape from sitting in that corner ignored for so long. I need to know how I should proceed in restoring this table to its glory days. All the pegs need to be reglued as do the legs where they were put together to be made into the 3x3 posts. I can find little to no finish left on it after sitting for so long. Any suggestion will be greatfully accepted. Carol ... cespos@nctv.com
