I have Koken wood folding barber chair. The chair has what was once white canvas or duck seat, back, foot rest and head support and leather belt style arm rests When set up in usable position the leather arms hold it in that position and keep it from colapsing. Can be folded up and carried away. Wood is either oak or walnut. Except for the leather arms the chair is in excellant condition. However it looks as tho it's been in someones attic for 100 years My understanding is that koken invented the hydrulic chair. If this is so is this chair I have made before that invention? I would really like to know more about this chair. Really, Really, Really!!!! E-mail me at jp1@adams.net Thank bunches.

I have a old reverse painting on glass. My problem is that I have inherited it and I noticed that the paint is flaking off of the glass. There are patches mostly small and one larger all over the painting. What can I do to stop this? It seems that any movement causes more to flake off. Is my painting doomed? I have several pieces of china that claim to be 24 karat gold plated. On the bottom, there is a small crown above the name Victoria above the word Czechoslovakia. There is a flower filligree design etched in the gold, and there is a circle in the center with a picture of a woman in an old, full, Victorian dress, whose hand is held by a gentleman, holding his hat with the other hand, bowing over her. There is a long branch arched over the two, and a shrub by his side.

Also a vase that is a deep Chiense Red with a floral design etched around it. It is extremely heavy, and there is on the bottom, there is a circle with two heavy horizontal lines across the top third; it resembles a Christmas tree bulb. In the bottom third of the bulb, there is a word patially obscured. It looks like Maxinui. below that is another word the first two letters are clearly P-A in block capitals, the third might be T. Under that, outside of the circle, written in cursive is Made in Occupied Japan. Everything on the bottom appears to have been written in gold, and there appear to be touches of gold in the floral, along with some other dimensional metal. The vase is scored in 4 sections, the top is slightly fluted at each of the four sections. Can anyone tell me anything about these pieces?  Thank you. shar230@sbcglobal.net

I have an old recliner chair that has a pin to push in for reclining. It does recline at a few settings. It is a mission style with wide wooden arms and I suspect the wood type may be walnut. The back has sloted wood across the back and is webbed at the seat. The feet are clawed and have a decorative wood piece at the bottom front. There are two cushions, one for the top/back and one for the bottom/seat. At present it has been redone with an inexpensive leather. The label is alittle torn but it does read, The Royal Chair Company, 1890 - 190? and the company was in Michigan, suspecting Sturgis or Grand Rapids. I have a pair of figurines. They are NOT originals, nor are they numbered, but they are signed P. Frank (for artist only, not an original signature) and were produced by KPM. They stand approx. 16" tall and each have a base approx. 4" in diameter. They are a boy and girl, each carrying fruit, the boy an apple in his hands and the girl with her apron loaded up with apples and other fruit. The boy fell over tonight and his head broke off. The break is pristine with NO missing pieces, chips, or flakes. 1) Not knowing the exact name of the line/pattern, what would be the approx. value of each piece? 2) What would be the best adhesive to repair the broken pieces? 3) What effect does the breakage have on the value of the piece assuming that restoration is perfect? It is handpainted and has what looks like gold around the rims of the teapot, cups, and saucers. It seems to be made of porcelain. Hi, I'm looking for resources to help me value an older mahogany Duncan Phyfe style drop leaf triple pedestal table with six chairs (rose back carvings - 1 captain). The pedestal are not claw feet, but are straight with rollers on the bottom. This was purchased at an estate sale and the family said it had been purchased in the 1940's, but didn't know if it was purchased new or used. Chairs had been recovered and the original cloth seats underneath seem to be in close to perfect condition (I'm currently taking them off). Original seats are a deep green with what appears to be primarily pink machine stitched flowers - very 1920's or 1930's looking to me. Any insights would be helpful. lisathompson@mchsi.com

I have an entire set (including serving pieces) of white Rosenthal china- scalloped edge with a gold rim. (the back reads "Rosenthal - Selb Bavaria). I would guess that it's from the 1920's-1930's. I don't know the name of the pattern, but would be interested in knowing if it has any value. I appreciate any information anyone would have. joanalc@aol.com

It is numbered on the bottom of the base "55/1324 and has a manufacturers sticker which is green with gold printing that says Original Arnartcreation Japan. I have a complete, very ornate red cedar french provencial full bedroom set; head and footboard, vanity and bench, chest on chest highboy, ornate wall mirror, and twin nightstands manufactured by Joernes Furniture Company of Stevens Point Wisconsin. The set is lined with cedar, accented with painted antiqued ornate wood hand-carved trim (with cutout woodwork on the bed pieces), and appears to be very well constructed. The curving side drawers on the vanity are so perfectly designed that they are not interchangeable. I'm guessing sometime around the 1940's? was the manufacture date. Never refinished, bench is in disrepair, and it needs new shellac (peeling). Any ideas as to value or historical information? reschuer@clearwire.net.

I need help identifying an old rough glazed teapot with it's own 'holding' plate and 4 cups. It is a medium brown rough glaze, (not shiny). It has dragons in relief on all the cups and on the pot but not on the plate. There is a dragon head that sticks out on the lid of the teapot that allows steam to escape from the pot through the dragons mouth. There are no markings on any of the pieces anywhere except for 3 symbols on the underside of the lid. The pot is about the size of a medium Brown Betty pot. The cups are small and sort of bowl shaped. If anyone has seen or heard of a teapot of this type or knows of a very experienced antique identifier, please email me at rainy4949@gmail.com This teapot set is reputed to have arrived in Paris from Istanbul on the orient express in the early 1930's. I'd really like to learn it's history. Thank you to anyone who can help.

I have an old Morris type reclining chair with an attached footrest which swings up (like a modern recliner) when you lean back. I beleive it belonged to my great great grandfather and was brought to the US from Ireland before 1900. The back has been broken and I'm looking to have it restored but I want to make it as authentic as possible. It is oak, I beleive and the sides are sort of harp shaped with a full panel on the bottom half (below the seat cushion) and spindles above. The arms curve and have a flat lion's head at the end of each arm. I have the mechanism for the footrest but do not know how it "attached" to the back of the chair. This is not a chair with wooden pins or a brass part which you latched into to set the chair back. I remember from my childhood that you just leaned back and the chair back went back and the footrest swung up. The last user had some kind of wire across the back that has broken, but was not the original mechanism anyway. The footrest, seat and back cushions are currently in naugahide. I think it had leather at one time, but I wonder if a William Morris fabric would be appropriate? I haven't been able to find anything quite like it pictured on the internet. I would like to hear from anyone with any information about such a chair who can steer me in the right direction for information to make this restoration authentic. E-mail me at http://www.ellenest@hotmail.com and put Morris chair in the subject line so I wont miss it among the spam. Thank you in advance.

Large white glazed stoneware soup toureen with lid, ladle and tray that is trimmed in grapes and grape leaf around the scroll handles of toureen and top of the lid. I need your help finding out how to date & appraise the value of my formal dining set. It's not in the best of condition, but I have been told by many that it is worth something being a Duncan Phife. I know it was made at the Drexel Furniture Co. in Drexel, North Carolina from the tags on the bottom of the chairs. It's label has reference to health codes in 1926, 1923, and 1929, so I'd assume it's a 1930's set? Please email me at athomerenee@gmail.com or call anytime from 8 am - 8 pm CST, ring me at 512-395-8916. Thanks for your help, Renee Wehmeyer
